Rare MacDonald Leaded Shade, Bigelow Kennard, Leaded, Slag Shade, Handel Lamp Era
He was a teacher of stained glass to Louis Comfort Tiffany. If you search MacDonald theres a Wikipedia article. Also on Leaded Lamps Dot Com theres some pictures of this shade on a Grueby Lamp base. This shade was a mystery on who made the shade since its only signed MacDonald. I herd it could of been his Son or Daughter. That cleared the confusion on who made the shade. Donald Newton MacDonald was the son that ended up being the head of the Stained glass lamp department of Bigelow & Kennard lamp co. So now I believe that these signed MacDonald Leaded shades are Prototypes to show Bigelow & Kennard his work and was hired and the same shades where then signed Bigelow & Kennard as we see today. This shade is very nice. The shade is 20 in Diameter with a 3 1/2 aperture top opening. The condition is mint. I hate to say that but I cant find a crack maybe a very small one up by the top in the green glass. The glass has a hammered type green top glass and a beautiful White Clam Broth bottom glass. The shade is signed MacDonald. I do have the Grueby lamp base I would also sell if there is interest? This shade is very hard and rare to find. If you have a nice Bigelow Kennard base there you go. Bigelow & Kennard Leaded Lamp, Slag, Stained Glass Shade, Arts Crafts, Handel Lamp
Up for consideration is a Nice Rare Bigelow Kennard student lamp. First if you know anything about Bigelow Lamps they are super hard to find, Let alone a Student lamp. This lamp has a nice Brass and Bronze weighted base. The base stands 21 tall with a 10 wide at the center of the shade holders and is 13 wide at the outside edge of the holder to outside edge. The foot is 6 1/4 in Diameter. The base has a nice dark brown patina, The shade holders are solid bronze and has a UNO threaded washer to hold the shades to the holder. The holder also has a top piece that can be screwed up or down to the top of the shade. The shades are not signed but Are Bigelow. You can go to leaded lamps dot com and see the same shades under Bigelow & Kennard. The shades are 4 -/2 tall and 7 opening. The top has a Hubbell UNO 1 1/4 threaded top marked Hubbell Pat D July 03 1903, Fed 03 1904. The shades are in good shape. The shades have a great Clam broth back glass know for Bigelow shades with a floral border. The shade condition is pretty good. One shade I dont see any issues maybe one small heat crack the other shade has 8 or 9 heat cracks as shown in the pictures and a missing piece of leading on the bottom edge as shown in the pictures. The lamp has been rewired and has its original nickel plate inline switch and old plug. Ive taken a lot of pictures which is part of the description. Use your zoom feature to see condition. RARE Handel Leaded Slag Stained Glass Bronze Water Lily Lamp Base
This is hard to find Handel lamp base. I have only come across a few over the years. It is a water lily themed one, done in solid bronze. Great look, nice finish, and complete with Hubbell sockets (with porcelain interiors), acorn pulls, cap and finial. It is even wired up with period style brown cloth cord. I see no dents, dings or major scratches and medium brown finish looks great. 21 1/2″ tall, 8″ diameter at the widest point of the bottom. Prominently signed HANDEL as shown. This is just beautiful – Curved Slag glass with 3 panels in neutral colors cream and brown. Original antique fixture with updated wiring and ready to hang in your home or office. The slag glass does not have any cracks or chip and the fixture is in excellent condition. There are minor signs of wear and shown in the photos due to normal use and age. Duffner & Kimberly Leaded Slag Stained Glass Owl Table Lamp Handel Tiffany Era
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is one of Duffner & Kimberly’s signature lamps….. Referred to as “the owl”. Great looking lamp in an unusual form. I will my pictures do most of the talking here, and from these you can see the very elegant and well thought out design of this beautiful lamp. IT really does look like an owl, doesn’t it? This is a full sized table lamp with an 19″ diameter shade (15″ square) that stands 22 1/2 tall. In terms of condition, I see a few tiles here and there with minor cracks in them, but nothing major. The solid bronze base is the one that is supposed to come with this shade and the pair combine to make a beautiful overall design. The green patina finish has worn off of some of the bottom areas of the base (as shown), but to me that is not a defect and actually adds to the character of the lamp. The cap has a very similar look, so you can tell these have been together since they were made. It has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and comes ready to use and enjoy. Neither the base nor the shade is signed, but again, this is a signature Duffner & Kimberly lamp that is fairly well documented. If you like lamps or need parts please feel free to look at my other auctions or contact me. That being said, please do not embarrass yourself with a lowball offer thinking you are going to get such a lamp like this. It is just a waste of both of our times. If you want to get a cheap lamp, go to WalMart or Ikea. If you are watching this just to watch and see if it sells, that’s fine. For anyone of you out there that buys or sells these, you know that if done correctly this amount won’t actually cover it.
