Gorgeous ANTIQUE AMERICAN ART NOUVEAU Copper Overlay Slag Glass Lamp c. Gorgeous ANTIQUE AMERICAN ART NOUVEAU Copper Overlay Slag Glass Lamp , circa 1915. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is a gorgeous Art Nouveau slag glass lamp, with meticulously cut metal overlay, dichroic slag glass, and a beautiful copper overlay base. I do not know the maker of this very rare lamp. It was made c. 1915, and retains all its original parts, glass, and sockets. The glass color is a translucent opal with a few light brown swirls. When a colored light bulb is used, the shade turns to that color, and the color is even throughout. The dichroic slag glass gives an opal-like effect, and was often used in Tiffany shades. It was difficult to produce, and the first example I have seen in a slag glass lamp. Similarly, this is the only example of this type of overlay that I have seen, Riviere Studios (pine needle) and Handel also used overlay. The lamp stands 23″ tall, and the shade is 18″ in diameter. The lamp is in excellent condition. The glass is free of chips, cracks, or damage, and is completely original. The filigree is complete, and free of loss or repair. The metal lamp base weighs about 10 lbs. And features metal overlay also. It is in excellent condition, complete, and has been professionally rewired. One of the pull chains is locked into the “on” position, and the filigree on the shade and base have even surface scratching throughout from prior dusting/cleaning over the years. Rare Antique RIVIERE STUDIOS PINE NEEDLE Overlay Piano Lamp c. Rare Antique RIVIERE STUDIOS PINE NEEDLE Overlay Piano Lamp , circa 1920s. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is an unsigned Riviere Studios (NY) piano lamp, with green dichroic (Tiffany style) slag glass panels, and bronze (or metal) overlay, c. This company specialized in making lamps and picture frames imitating Tiffany’s “pine needle” pattern, but adopting it in more complex ways when applied to lighting. The quality of the glass is very similar. This is the only example of a “piano-style” lamp I have seen, and it may be unique. The lamp measures 15.5″ tall, and the shade is 13″ x 13″ x 6″. The shade extends outward from the base, so the lamp is 13 deep, as the shade is fixed with screws, and the diagonal portion extent outward. The base is onyx, and was likely added about 10 post production of the lamp to provide better balance due to its weight. The lamp was rewired about 20 years ago. The wiring is sound, the the cord shows minor wear. Three of the four glass panels show single tight heat-related “age” cracks. This is mostly hidden by the filigree, but with one panel it is more obvious (as depicted in the photos). The other two are obscured. I have pictured all 4 panels from the exterior, and the last three photos show the cracks from the interior. The green (verdigris) finish on the lamp base shows even wear throughout, with a pleasing appearance. The filigree is complete, and undamaged, and the lamp is in excellent working order. Although the shade is “fixed”, it can be removed by taking out a single screw. The shade required modest placement, with a small tab which centers in-between on of the ribs. It may seem awkward, until everything is in place, but this is “as constructed, ” very stable when in place, and could be a unique item from this highly collected maker. Antique Handel Tropical Sunset Slag Stained Glass Overlay Floor Lamp
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is a beautiful and all original Handel tropical overlay floor lamp. Just a wonderful looking lamp all the way around, with great glass and beautiful color. The lamp stands 57″ tall and the harp area is 14″ wide. The shade is 7 in diameter. The shade has no replaced pieces and no repairs. All of the filigree is present and accounted for. The base has its original dark brown finish with age wear here and there from use….. But has not been cleaned or messed with. The shade is not signed, but guaranteed to be an original 1905 era Handel tropical overlay shade. The base has new felt on the bottom, but retains its original Handel cloth tag. The lamp has been wired with period style brown cloth cord and a nice old plug and comes ready to use and enjoy. It has just become too difficult and costly to do so effectively. It is actually much better for both of us this way as they will fully guarantee it to get there without damage and if something happens they will 100% stand behind it without any claims hassle. I have worked with this UPS Store over many years and they do a great job with things like this. You are also more than welcome to come and get it yourself, or if we are close I can meet you somewhere with it. If you like lamps or need parts please feel free to lo.
