1920′s Blue, Purple, Green Slag Glass Lamp Shade Art Deco Nouveau 6 Panel
Lovely antique 1920′s 6 Panel Slag Glass lamp shade with metal overlay. I’ve handled many of these over the years and I believe the metal overlay to retain it’s original patina and paint. The glass appears to have never been taken out of it’s frame for cleaning and the tabs that hold the glass in place are tight and secure. As well, the glass fits well into the frame and is held in place very. The metal is strong with no splits or broken parts of the fancy. The metal is “NOT” the soft bendable type of pot metal and the shade is NOT “out of shape”. In other words, you won’t be. Because the shade is firm, sound, and nothing is bent out of angle. The glass is a stunning lovely creamy mix of purple, blue, spots of green , cream and caramel. The glass has NO damage at all. Nothing broken, chipped or cracked. I will point out that a few of the. Have what is called “cooling marks” or stretch marks. When this type of thick glass was being bent during manufacture, sometimes little “cooling marks” could appear as the glass was cooling. You will sometimes hear folks call this “straw marks”. These are not cracks or damage and they are a part of the manufacturing process. Look closely at the photos and you will see a few of these faint lines here and there. They do not distract from the beauty of this shade or affect it’s. I do my best to describe everything in as much detail as I can. The metal circle at the top (the part that is placed down over a base) is strong and firm. The shade is unsigned. I’m hoping that someone has the perfect base and this awesome shade will be of use. Size: approx 15.3/4 at the widest distance between point to point on the bottom. 13.3/4 across the bottom from flat side to flat side. It stands 7 inches tall from bottom to top and the diameter of the circle at the top is 3.3/8. Gorgeous Arts and Crafts hanging suspended ceiling chandelier. The fixture is made of heavy brass with wide brass filigree. The stained or slag glass panels are all damage free and are a caramel or yellow/white in color. The wiring appears to be original and should be inspected/repaired/replaced prior to use. The chandelier did work prior to removal from past service. This was originally installed in an Arts and Crafts built style period home in the Buffalo NY USA region circa 1915. Overall drop from ceiling canopy to the bottom of the small satellite shades is 34″, The distance from the ceiling canopy to the top of the large center fixture is 12″, the height of the large center fixture is 8″, the width across the large center fixture at the top which is the widest point is 16″, the distance from the from the top of the large center fixture to the bottom of the satellite fixtures is 15 1/4″, the width of the satellite fixtures is 4 3/4″. Rare Antique RIVIERE STUDIOS PINE NEEDLE Overlay Piano Lamp c. Rare Antique RIVIERE STUDIOS PINE NEEDLE Overlay Piano Lamp , circa 1920s. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is an unsigned Riviere Studios (NY) piano lamp, with green dichroic (Tiffany style) slag glass panels, and bronze (or metal) overlay, c. This company specialized in making lamps and picture frames imitating Tiffany’s “pine needle” pattern, but adopting it in more complex ways when applied to lighting. The quality of the glass is very similar. This is the only example of a “piano-style” lamp I have seen, and it may be unique. The lamp measures 15.5″ tall, and the shade is 13″ x 13″ x 6″. The shade extends outward from the base, so the lamp is 13 deep, as the shade is fixed with screws, and the diagonal portion extent outward. The base is onyx, and was likely added about 10 post production of the lamp to provide better balance due to its weight. The lamp was rewired about 20 years ago. The wiring is sound, the the cord shows minor wear. Three of the four glass panels show single tight heat-related “age” cracks. This is mostly hidden by the filigree, but with one panel it is more obvious (as depicted in the photos). The other two are obscured. I have pictured all 4 panels from the exterior, and the last three photos show the cracks from the interior. The green (verdigris) finish on the lamp base shows even wear throughout, with a pleasing appearance. The filigree is complete, and undamaged, and the lamp is in excellent working order. Although the shade is “fixed”, it can be removed by taking out a single screw. The shade required modest placement, with a small tab which centers in-between on of the ribs. It may seem awkward, until everything is in place, but this is “as constructed, ” very stable when in place, and could be a unique item from this highly collected maker. Up for consideration is a Rare Duffner Kimberly Snapdragon leaded glass lamp. These lamps don’t come up often and here is your chance to get a real beauty guaranteed a Duffner & Kimberly lamp. Pictures do not do this lamp justice. This is a large lamp with the shade being 21 1/2 Dia. The base stands 26 to the top of the finial. Duffner used really fantastic glass in this shade with some tight heat cracks which are very common in these orig. No loose or replaced glass or missing glass. The hand-riveted lantern features a flared shape and is ornamented with trefoil iron straps and honey-colored slag glass. This light fixture is in excellent condition.
