Antique Prairie School Slag Glass Mission Solid Oak Lamp Arts Crafts Early 1900
This original lamp was created in the early 1900′s by the Peterson Art Furniture Co. Located in Faribault, Minnesota. It is crafted in solid oak and it’s beautiful slag glass is shaded in pastel green and pink. It measures 23″ tall, 19″ square, and weighs 12.5 lbs. The base measures 8 x 8. The condition is incredible, and at 100 years of age, it works wonderfully with all it’s original parts. The term Prairie School is specific to a time period (the late 19th century and early 20th century) and falls in line with the Arts & Crafts movement. With inspiration from mid 19th century England, the Arts & Crafts movement eventually spread throughout Europe and then to North America, including Canada, where it became known as the American Arts & Crafts movement. Peterson Art Furniture was founded in 1905 in Faribault, Minn. By John Peterson, who was born in Denmark in 1871 and emigrated to the United States when he was 13 years old. He was employed as a wood carver and cabinet maker in Massachusetts before coming west to work in a furniture store in Minneapolis. In 1895, he joined his brother Andrew in Faribault and worked as a carver and designer with the Hutchinson-Stockton Furniture Company until 1901, when he started a furniture company of his own in Waterville, Minn. The company acquired other furniture factories, including Daisy Woodcraft, North Star Furniture Co. And the Faribault Furniture Co. And at one time manufacturing took place at six locations, four in Faribault and two in Waterville. We encourage any and all questions concerning this beautiful lamp. Signed 1912 Royal Art Glass Co Slag Glass 12 Panel Lamp skyline scene light
Wow what a beauty!!! It does need a SEVERE CLEANING!!! There is a complete crack in a bottom straight panel as shown (it is a break but the frame of the lamp holds it tight together) and there is also a crack in the very top metal decorative piece in the corner. What is glaring is the beautiful art work and the glass color that would take your eyes away from any flaws. IT has 6 upper and lower panels. IT stands a little under 24 tall. The shade is about 11 1/2 tall and 17 12/ in diameter. IT looks great all dirty, can you imagine how it will look once you give it a detailed cleaning. The base is signed on the bottom Royal Glass Co 1912. I can’t say for sure that it is the original base but if you find Royal Glass slag lamps, it certainly looks like it and at the estate sale, they said they were 95% certain was the original base. The cord is not time period correct. The item “Signed 1912 Royal Art Glass Co Slag Glass 12 Panel Lamp skyline scene light” is in sale since Monday, August 01, 2016. This item is in the category “Antiques\Decorative Arts\Lamps”. The seller is “mycbay” and is located in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. This item can be shipped worldwide.
