ANTIQUE BRADLEY & HUBBARD VICTORIAN SLAG GLASS Desk LAMP Rare Small 11-1/2 Size. Estimated age: Early 1900s. Base style indicates #208. Shade fits nicely on base. Originally designed for boudoir or desk. Ornate Filigree Frame on shade. 6 Sided Slag Glass Shade. Base and Shade marked Bradley & Hubbard. Shade: 4-1/2″ Tall x 8-1/2″ Wide. CONDITION : Excellent Antique, No filigree damage, light fully functioning. Exterior cloth on cord is fraying. Small chip in inside of plastic screw where cord meets base. Felt on bottom is detached. Removed to confirm that base was a genuine Bradley & Hubbard. See pic of signature stamp. Small chip on inside only of the slag glass panel. Does not show when lit or from exterior. Between 1868 and 1875, Bradley and Hubbard secured 33 patents relating to the design and mechanics of oil burning lamps (in all, the company would eventually patent a total of 238 designs and mechanical devices). The company was reorganized in 1875 as a joint stock company renamed The Bradley and Hubbard Manufacturing Company. Slag glass, a type of opaque, streaked, antique pressed glass that originated in England in the late 19th century, was used in glassware items such as lampshades, jugs, wine glasses and beakers.

Mission arts crafts slag stained glass desk lamp handel bradley hubbard tiffany
A very beautiful original antique Handel student desk lamp in excellent condition. This lamp is very finely cast and made from thick solid real bronze making it very heavy. The original untouched patina is in excellent condition. The quality of the casting and overall craftsmanship of this lamp is outstanding throughout as shown. Both of the original turnkey light sockets are in perfect working order with a like new snap to the switches and still retain both of the original bronze turn keys that are always missing. There is a small dent in the lower edge of the base and a little ding on one of the shade holders shown in the last two photos. Both will go completely unnoticed. I never saw either of them until I took it out into direct sun light for the photos. All of the original shade holder thumb screws are present less one that that has a nice old screw in its place. It needs to be rewired, I have many more lamps to list and just don’t have time to do it. It stands 20″ tall by 15-1/2 ” wide. The base is 7-1/4 wide.
