Large Antique Art Nouveau C. 1915 Signed Salem Brothers Slag Glass Lamp. I’d like to offer for your consideration this very nice slag glass lamp by Salem Bros NY, they were in business from late 1890s til early 1930s. Condition is good with regular wear, both sockets are in working order, newer wiring and I just replaced electric plug. Antiaque Salem Bros. Bent Slag Glass Lamp Bradley & Hubbard Miller Handel styles
This is a really good looking Salem Brothers Bent Slag Glass Lamp. The lamp stands 23 inches tall on its 7 inch wonderfully sculpted cast iron base. The lamp is heavy, weighing in at over 15 pounds. Really a good looking lamp with about all of its original patinated gold finish, near how it came from the studio. The overlay Bent Caramel Slag Glass shade is 15 or 16 inches in diameter, depending on measuring flats or corners and is 8 inches tall. All the wonderful sculpted flower and leaf overlay is complete with really fine detailing. All the glass is complete with no cracks or missing chips. The base is marked on the bottom with the Salem Brothers logo. The lamp has been correctly rewired and works perfectly. Just a great Salem Brothers lamp for your home or office. Salem Bros, Scenic Panel Overlay Slag Lamp, Lions Rabbit Scene In Africa Setting
This type of lamp has been commonly referred to as a slag glass or panel overlay lamp. The lamp is large as it stands 21 1/2″ tall and is 18 1/8″ in diameter, diagonal measurements. The shade measures 15 5/8 wide from flat side to flat side. The lamp displays and scenic overlay scene of what appears to be a scene out of Africa. It is accented with 6 bent or curved slag glass panels and flat stained glass for the sides. The grass is done in a mint green opalescent stained glass with the sky and background done in a blue lavender stained glass. In the overlay you can see a hut with a Lion in the right hand corner and a rabbit in the left. In the sky is an overlay of a tree with lots of branches. The detail in the overlay is outstanding. This shades sits on a 3 arm with a ring or shade holder to simulate a gas type light. It is lit with a single light socket that has a later 3 way interior for 3 levels of light. The base is round on the foot and has a column with raised relief of a torch on each flat side. There is a leaf pattern in raised relief on the foot. This table lamp is in excellent condition. The condition of the shade and base is outstanding for over 100 years of use. The base has no major dings and the shade is free of any cracks. None of the curved glass nor flat panels show any damage. The base is signed on the underside bottom “Salem Bros” in a round wafer shaped disc. I added green felt to protect ones furniture after I took the picture. This lamp has been professionally rewired with period looking brown rayon cord. It still retains its original lamp plug and the 3 way socket works wonderfully well. I have seen similar overlay of this scene done by Miller Lamp and Bradley and Hubbard but this one is of the highest quality I have ever seen. It is strong, thick metal and quite heavy for its size.
