This type of lamp has been commonly referred to as a slag glass or panel overlay lamp. The lamp is large as it stands 21 1/2″ tall and is 18 1/8″ in diameter, diagonal measurements. The shade measures 15 5/8 wide from flat side to flat side. The lamp displays and scenic overlay scene of what appears to be a scene out of Africa. It is accented with 6 bent or curved slag glass panels and flat stained glass for the sides. The grass is done in a mint green opalescent stained glass with the sky and background done in a blue lavender stained glass. In the overlay you can see a hut with a Lion in the right hand corner and a rabbit in the left. In the sky is an overlay of a tree with lots of branches. The detail in the overlay is outstanding. This shades sits on a 3 arm with a ring or shade holder to simulate a gas type light. It is lit with a single light socket that has a later 3 way interior for 3 levels of light. The base is round on the foot and has a column with raised relief of a torch on each flat side. There is a leaf pattern in raised relief on the foot. This table lamp is in excellent condition. The condition of the shade and base is outstanding for over 100 years of use. The base has no major dings and the shade is free of any cracks. None of the curved glass nor flat panels show any damage. The base is signed on the underside bottom “Salem Bros” in a round wafer shaped disc. I added green felt to protect ones furniture after I took the picture. This lamp has been professionally rewired with period looking brown rayon cord. It still retains its original lamp plug and the 3 way socket works wonderfully well. I have seen similar overlay of this scene done by Miller Lamp and Bradley and Hubbard but this one is of the highest quality I have ever seen. It is strong, thick metal and quite heavy for its size. It will look outstanding in that country farm house or Victorian setting. CLEMENTS ANTIQUES OF NEW HAMPSHIRE STOREFRONT. Please wait for my Invoice before paying. Sign up for Mailing List. EARLY 20TH CENTURY CARAMEL & AQUAMARINE SIGNED RAINAUD SLAG GLASS LAMP JAPANESE GARDEN SCENE. Thank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We’re a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients. With our highest compliments and honor we’re proud to offer for sale this magnificent early 20th century signed Rainaud 6 panel slag glass lamp with fire gilt floral Art Nouveau base and Japanese garden scene shade. Rainaud lamps were made in Meriden Connecticut, alongside others such as Handel, Bradley & Hubbard, and Miller. The United states wasn’t fully electrified until the 1930′s. Superseding this time electric lamps & lighting were reserved for the wealthier families. Lamp makers recognized this and began making lesser toned down versions everyday people could afford. This is the reason why every Handel isn’t worth 5k. This lamp is much nicer than any Rainaud we’ve seen on the market. Once the company moved towards more mass produced lamps they started branding them “RAINAUD”. This lamp is signed under the base with a stylized “R” we believe to be one of his earliest marks. The base is fire gilt in a process that affixes a small amount of gold to the metal giving it it’s luster. The lamp has an overall faux bamboo ornamentation with lilly flower and exotic vegetation. The shade depicts a tranquil Japanese garden scene with cranes, arbor, and a footbridge over water. Caramel or amber glass are the most frequently used shade in lamp making. Miller put it simply, It’s the easiest on the eye and best for reading. The 6 caramel slag glass panels make up the sky with 6 lovely aquamarine sunset panels for the water. There’s an extensive use of embossed metals & filigree to create a wonderful Japanese garden scene. The lamp is 25″ tall with a diameter of 17.5″ at the shade. Our warehousing facility located at 190 Chestnut St. Convenient downtown location just minutes away from I-91 and I-90 Masspike. We are a wholly owned family business in our third decade of continuous operation. Offered for sale is an antique style slag glass lamp shade with a scenic country-side design. I have no provenance for this lamp shade, but it looks to be a good match for either a Miller, Salem Bros. Or Bradley & Hubbard lamp base. It is a beautiful lamp with great colors. All gridwork is intact. The interior hexagon framing is steel reinforced, whereas the decorative metal is not magnetic (likely zinc and/or nickel with a bronze plating). I detect no significant damage other than minor scratches. The lamp shade measures 16-1/2″ across the bottom, it is about 8″ high, and has a 3-1/2 opening on the top. Please contact me if you have any questions. We sell anything from earrings to rings, necklaces, brooches, pendants, cuff bracelets, and more! We look forward to serving you! Thank you for looking! The issue will be resolved! The item “Vintage Slag Glass Lamp- 6 Panel Cat Tails, Home on Lake Scene Miller Hubbard” is in sale since Thursday, September 13, 2018.
