This listing is for a scarce antique desk or table lamp of unusual columnar design. Although unmarked, it was manufactured in the Unites States during the 1920s or 1930s. The ornate metal overlay is backed by rippling amber slag glass that glows marvelously when illuminated and gives the impression of a lantern being held aloft. What makes this particular lamp unusual is its large size (roughly 24.5 inches tall) and use of metal overlay. Most lamps of this columnar style from the 1920-30 period are smaller and lack metal overlay, which was normally employed on flat panel lamps. Perhaps owing to its fragility, relatively few examples of this model have survived, and the majority of those have condition problems. The offered lamp, however, is very well preserved. It retains the original surface decoration of bronze-brown with gold highlights. All the metal overlay and glass panels are also intact. The lamp worked properly at the time of photography, as shown. But because used wiring is notoriously fickle, I cannot guarantee that the lamp will continue to function once it has left my possession. That said, the lamp is clean and wonderful – and ready for your home! And now for the fine print.

To the modern era, and inspection of our merchandise is FREE in our Roger’s Park (Chicago) private gallery. Up for your consideration is a gorgeous antique slag glass lamp, American, c. I do not know the maker, but the lamp is well-constructed and high quality. The primary color of the shade is caramel, with a floral border. All glass is original, and free of chips, cracks, or damage. The piece measures 22.5″ tall, and the shade is 17″ in diameter. Overall, it weighs just under 15 lbs, so it is heavy, and well made. The shade is in excellent original condition, no damage to the glass, or filigree. There is light surface wear to the base, nothing distracting. It may be bronze, as an inner metal (lead) has been inserted as a “weighted” base. It has recently been rewired, but has a unique issue with one pull chain. It works fine until you release it, and then the socket shuts off. It is from a small plastic piece embedded in the top of the socket, and can be repaired in a minute or two with the right know how. The main point is that the rest of the wiring is sound and had been modernized, this is just a minor socket issue where someone likely pulled it to hard. This quote is for the Continental U. International Buyers — Please Note.

Up for your consideration is a fine antique slag glass lamp, American, c. I do not know the maker, but the lamp is well-constructed and high quality. However, the gilded spelter base shows a crack near the lightbulb, and just below. It looks like downward pressure was applied to the top of the stem, causing the now stable cracks. Unfortunately, the lamp does not stand up perfectly vertically, but it may be able to be bent back (see the last few photos). It has been professionally rewired, and works perfectly. The shade has some dirtiness to the exterior, dark pin-tip spots within the recesses of the glass, as is common. The primary color of the shade is caramel. All glass is original, and free of chips, cracks, or damage. The piece measures 26″ tall, and the shade is 20″ in diameter. Overall, it weighs just under 17 lbs, so it is quite heavy, and well made. For sale is a wonderful circa 1920 American slag glass table lamp in working condition. Directly from a private estate near Woodstock, New York in untouched condition. The lamp body featuring a fluted square column body with an ornate floral four footed base. The lamp having its original metal beaded pull. The slag glass shade having four triangle shaped slag glass panels with gorgeous caramel swirl colorations throughout. One panel with hints of violet swirls as well. The lamp having a very rare metal decoration of Islamic or Ottoman Empire style architecture with the crescent moon atop the dome of a building flanked by palm trees. The crescent moon being a very important symbol in Islamic architectural as well as Ottoman architecture. In 1922 interest in all things Middle Eastern increased with the discovery of King Tut’s burial chamber. This lamp may precede that date… Or it may be shortly thereafter. We believe it is in the 1915 to 1920s date range. We have seen many slag glass lamps during our careers, but we have never come across an American slag glass lamp with Islamic/Ottoman style architectural designs. Quite rare we’d’ think. Condition: All four glass panels in good condition with no cracks. The intricate nooks and crannies having old dust and grime and can use a proper cleaning. The original bronze color painted metal surface in overall good condition with only age appropriate wear/losses. THE ORIGINAL OLD ELECTRICAL CORD SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH MODERN CODE COMPLIANT WIRING. Width of Shade – 12 (per side).
