Duffner & Kimberly Arts & Crafts Leaded Slag Stained Glass Lamp Tiffany Era
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is an absolutely stunning example of Duffner & Kimberly’s work. They call this shade the “shell” and it should be readily apparent why. What’s amazing about this particular example is the number of different kinds of brown glass they used and how much they vary in color. In addition, the medallions at the top have a striking glow when lit up. This lamp is 100% original and has not been messed with in any way (except for the rewiring). The glass is all original. The base is all original. It is truly an excellent all around original lamp. As for size, the shade measures 19″ in diameter and the lamp stands 23″ tall. I will let my pictures do the talking here, but if you have any questions about this lamp please feel free to ask. Condition is as close to excellent as you can get with maybe a coupdl of small cracks here and there. I would not replace this piece as you would never find the same glass and it really does not detract from the appearance at all. The base retains all of its original hardware including matching Bryant pull chains with their original interiors and ball ended pull chains, original heart cutout cap, and finial. It has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and a nice old plug and comes ready to use and enjoy. Folks, these shell lamps do not come up all that often and I can honestly say that you won’t find one in as nice or in as original condition as this one. If you have ever wanted a great example of a true Duffener & Kimberly original lamp, this may be the one for you. Thanks, and please see my other listings for other great lamps from this period. It has just become too difficult and costly to do so effectively. It is actually much better for both of us this way as they will fully guarantee it to get there without damage and if something happens they will 100% stand behind it without any claims hassle. I have worked with this UPS Store over many years and they do a great job with things like this. You are also more than welcome to come and get it yourself, or if we are close I can meet you somewhere with it. If you like lamps or need parts please feel free to look at my other auctions or contact me. That being said, please do not embarrass yourself with a lowball offer thinking you are going to get such a lamp like this. It is just a waste of both of our times. If you want to get a cheap lamp, go to WalMart or Ikea. If you are watching this just to watch and see if it sells, that’s fine. The D &K COMPANIES PHILOSOPHY WAS TO OFFER LIGHTING FIXTURES IN THE PUREST PERIOD STYLES FOR THE FINEST RESIDENCES THEY CHOSE TO COMPETE DIRECTLY AGAINST TIFFANY STUDIOS. WHY IS SO LITTLE KNOWN ABOUT THIS FINE CO? D&K EXISTED FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME, 1905 BUT BY 1913 WENT BANKRUPT. THE RECESSION OF 1908 BADLY HURT SALES FOR OPULENT EXPENSIVE ITEMS. TODAY D&K LAMPS ARE LIKE TIFFANY STUDIOS, HIGHLY COLLECTABLE AND IN GREAT DEMAND WHILE COMMANDING HIGH PRICES. VERY LITTLE PRINTED INFORMATION IS KNOWN TO EXIST. Please look at all of the pictures closely and ask any questions you may have, if you dont have a question it lies on you to ask them. A lot of things I sell are mostly pieces picked up at estate sales, private parties, or personal items. The majority of things I sell are in my opinion and some very long term collectors Antique or vintage, so a little minor wear can be expected from time to time. It has a great 6 socket cluster as you can see from the photos and its in fine working order. The leading all tight and right and i see no repairs. Its got a couple of tight age/heat stress’s in the glass which is appropriate for its age. Great patina on the hardware as well. Please Check out my other items! Some great Bradley Hubbard, Tiffany, Handel, etc. So when I see your offers, I have to subtract those costs to get to my net. The costs can be up to 250.00 per item depending on the final price. I will be offering my lamps as reasonable as possible so as to 1. Not cause sticker shock like so many other sellers, 2. To sell them and not let my inventory sit around for years on end. Thanks for checking this great lamp out and please check out my other great lighting options as well. Zone two would be 75.00 times 20% which equals 15.00 which is added to the 75.00 and becomes 90.00. Zone three is 75.00 times 33% which is 25.00 which then becomes 100.00 for zone three. Sorry to do this and I hope you will stay on as fine and loyal customers. We may be able to hand deliver this item ourselves. What that means is this. If you live in the following radius or just outside it, we should communicate about not using a major carrier, so it has a better chance of survival and minimizing damage or a damage claim as well. Manhattan ny to boston ma. To all potential buyers. Chances are if there aren’t any, it’s a newer item and you shouldn’t want it anyways. In other words, a minor blemish on some metalwork belonging to a large shade or a 1/16 by 1/16 of a paint flake missing, please try and be reasonable. I always describe the important aspects towards condition reports and sometimes my eye misses what I deem immaterial issues such as the aforementioned sentence. Thanks for your understanding. There are a few things in life we cant do without. Food, water, fire, oxygen, the sun, shelter etc. So when it comes to shelter and necessary light for it, thats where I come in. I believe in living simply and within my means but surrounded by items of great quality. Of and the wasteful utilities that go along with that. So why is it people go out and spend. Not to mention you got the same usage for that entire time period? This makes infinitely more financial sense than the other choice, plus you have a conversation piece in the room and something to be proud of. Also you have more cultural feeling invested in something 100 years old knowing that it can never be duplicated by modern making techniques and knowing there a few, if any, like it left for this world and now its yours. You display it and care for it. So again thats where I come in. Great period lighting when electricity was still in its infancy. When makers like Bradley and Hubbard, Handel, Tiffany studios, Pairpoint, and others cared about quality, appearance, and function. When makers were trying to outdo one another with this new business boom of electric lighting. When we went from whale and kerosene oil lamps and gas, to electric. This is when the best lamps in the world were manufactured and the ones I want to light my home with when its dark. I cant control the sun or the amount of light it provides or when it comes up or goes down, and whether its cloudy or not, but I can control the light in my home when its dark. And like I said earlier, I want nice rugs, paintings, pottery, furniture, etc. And I want to see those items lit by great lighting. Its what makes a home more outstanding and livable because without it you see absolutely nothing. A quality lamp makes or breaks a room. You can have the best rugs, furniture, paintings, and accessories in the world, but without great lamps or lighting nobody will ever see it. That’s a substantial savings, so please factor that in when making your offer. Antique Original Duffner & Kimberly Leaded Slag Glass Floral Boarder Lamp
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is a great looking Duffner & Kimberly leaded glass floral boarder lamp. It was made towards the end of their 5 year production as evidenced by the smaller opening in the top and the more simple bases that they used at that time. Still there is no question about the quality of such lamps…. They are absolutely stunning and great to look at. Just look at how the floral boarder screams out against the unusual hospital greenish background! I will let my pictures do most of the talking here because my words won’t give this beautiful lamp the justice it deserves. First, though, lets start with size. The shade measures 18 1/2″ in diameter and the lamp stands about 23″ tall. The shade is composed of a yeallow boarder with stunning granite backed glass. I see only one small spider crack in one of the upper triangular panels (as shown). All of the rest of the glass is fine with no cracks at all. The spun brass base has all of its original hardware including the characteristic (but smaller) fleur-de-lis cap that came with these later models. It has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and a nice old plug and comes ready to use and enjoy. Folks, this is a great looking Duffner & Kimberly lamp. Not the highest end of their production, but still very VERY well done. It has just become too difficult and costly to do so effectively. It is actually much better for both of us this way as they will fully guarantee it to get there without damage and if something happens they will 100% stand behind it without any claims hassle.
