THIS IS AN EXQUSITE, HIGHLY ORNATE ANTIQUE (ART NOUVEAU PERIOD) LARGE BENT SLAG GLASS TABLE LAMP. THE LAMP IS ACTUALLY A 19TH CENTURY CONVERTED GAS LAMP, AND IT IS IN TERRIFIC CONDITION. THE SLAG GLASS SHADE HAS AMAZING CURVES IN THE TWO TONE GREEN SLAG WITH DRAMATIC GILDED BRASS OVERLAY. THIS SHADE DEFINES THE TERM “BENT SLAG”! WE DID NOT SEE A NAME ON THE BASE, HOWEVER IT HAS A CENTURY WORTH OF PATINA ON THE BRASS AND WE DID NOT WANT TO RUIN THE LAMP BY POLISHING IT. THE BASE HAS GREEN FELT OVER IRON. IN THE 7TH PHOTO YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE WIRE IS COMING OUT OF THE BASE. THAT IS WHERE THE “GAS KEY” WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ALLOW THE INFLOW OF GAS. THE SHADE IS DUSTY BUT IS IN TERRIFIC CONDITION. IT FEATURES 8 BENT SLAG PANELS WITH AMAZING SWIRLS OF GREEN COLOR IN THE GLASS. THE SHADE IS UNIQUE BECAUSE THE DARKER GREEN PANELS ARE SLIMMER. THE SHADE HAS FANTASTIC GILT OVER BRASS OVERLAY WITH SOME WEAR TO THE ORIGINAL GOLD GILDING. IN THE 6TH PHOTO WE TRIED TO SHOW THE WONDERFUL CURVES IN THE GLASS. IN THE LAST PHOTO YOU WILL SEE THAT THERE IS ONE SPOT WHERE THE STAMPED GILT OVERLAY IS SCRUNCHED SLIGHTLY. THE WIRING & PLUG ARE IN NICE CONDITION AS WELL. THE SOCKETS HAVE DOUBLE CHAIN PULLS AND IN THE PHOTOS WE ONLY HAD A 40 WATT BULBS IN THEM. AGAIN THE LAMP HAS THE ORIGINAL CLOTH SHEETHED WIRE AND PLUG FROM THE 1910-20′S WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY CONVERTED. THERE ARE LIGHT FRAYS ON THE CLOTH. IN THE 11TH PHOTO YOU WILL SEE HOW THE LAMP SITS IN THE ORIGINAL RING ON THE GAS BASE. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE SHADE ON AND OFF THE LAMP YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE LIGHT BULBS AND LIFT THE RING UP AND OVER THE SOCKETS UNTIL IT IS FREE. IN THE 7TH PHOTO YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE IS NO TOPPER ON THE BASE, BUT THERE PROBABLY NEVER WAS ONE WHEN THEY CONVERTED IT. THE ANTIQUE LAMP MEASURES 23 3/4 ” TALL, AND THE SHADE IS ABOUT 14 1/4 ” WIDE. WHEN I WAS MEASURING I NOTICED SOME OF THE BRASS LOOPS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SHADE ARE BENT SLIGHTLY. This listing is for a unusual 18 Eight Panel Bent Slag Glass Lamp Shade. Egyptian revival motif, with 8 bent slag glass panels with overlaid straps and Egyptian sphinx around the lower border. Very nice colorful cold painted highlights of the sphinx and shaped around the border and top of the shade. The paint on these shades are rarely found in this good of condition, usually has been worn off over the years. This one is very nice with minimal wear. The slag glass is colorful and has no damage, cracks or chips. X 3-7/16″ diameter top x 18-3/4″ diameter bottom. Antique Unique Arts & Craft Filigree Bent Circular Slag Glass Table Lamp
Antique Unique Arts & Craft Filigree Bent Circular Slag Glass Table Lamp. This is a Very Unique and Unusual Raised Filigree Slag Glass Table Lamp. The slag glass is bent & circular which I personally have never seen before. I have seen lots of bent panel slag glass lamps but none that are bent to create a circular lamp shade. It is quite interesting they did it with four panels held in with tabs just as most slag lamps have. It has a raised attached floral pattern with a cross hatched filigree pattern also. The lamp is I believe a cast white metal and it is quite heavy and very solid it weighs 19.7.5 pounds. It has it’s original finish it is old so there are a few somewhat small areas of finish loss. I do not see any missing pieces on the shades frame and all the little tabs holding the glass are there. I see some areas of solder on the inside I’m not sure if that is factory or if they did it after the fact. It is something you do not see unless you turn the shade over and quite honestly I believe it is factory! There is actually still some of the mold material still on the slag glass from when they bent the glass using a mold. I do not see any makers marks so I have no clue whom the maker is but it is made very well. The sockets are not original the original sockets were in very poor condition! There is one Hubbell with an acorn pull and the other is an Arrow with a ball pull. The wiring to the sockets has been changed also it had single solid core wiring originally. The cord may be original but I’m not sure it was with the lamp when it was found. This very unique lamp stands 23″ the shade is 7 1/2″ tall about 15 1/2 wide and as I said it weighs 19.7.5 pounds. I do not believe you will be at all disappointed with this very beautiful and different table lamp. To me it has a wonderful Arts & Craft look! I believe because of the wiring it dates from 1920 to 1930 but could possibly be earlier. Thank you for your interest! In the case of a Holiday it may take a bit longer!!! But don’t expect to find anything remotely Victorian!! So please try to be somewhat kind because sadly it’s really easy to hurt us with those star ratings!! I Do Also Except E-Check!!! The absence of a condition statement on effects of normal aging does not imply that the item is in like new condition or completely free from wear and tear, small imperfections or the effects of aging is present in 99% of all antique and vintage collectible items. THE WIRING & PLUG ARE IN TERRIFIC CONDITION AS WELL. THE SOCKETS HAVE DOUBLE CHAIN PULLS AND IN THE PHOTOS WE HAD A 40 WATT BULB IN THEM. THE LAMP MIGHT HAVE BEEN REWIRED IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY, BUT WE ARE NOT SURE. THE ONLY WEAR TO THE LAMP IS LIGHT FLAKING TO THE PAINTED METAL AND ONE SEAM IN THE METAL ON THE SHADE. (11TH PHOTO) THAT SEAM DOES NOT AFFECT THE STABILITY OF THE SHADE, AND ALL OF THE SLAG PIECE SIT SECURLY. (WE DID NOT EVEN KNOW THE SEAM WAS THERE UNTIL WE STARTED TO TAKE PHOTOS). THE ANTIQUE LAMP MEASURES 22″ TALL TO THE LEAFY FINIAL, AND THE SHADE IS ABOUT 16″ WIDE. WE MAKE SURE THAT WE MEASURE TWICE AND DO OUR BEST TO DESCRIBE EACH ITEM.
