Victorian-era slag glass table lamp with a decorative metal base 1910

Slag glass lamps, also known as marble glass lamps, gained popularity during the late Victorian era and into the early 20th century. They are characterized by their distinctive glass shades, which are made by mixing molten glass with a deoxidizing agent, creating a marbled or swirled effect. These lamps were often produced by companies like Tiffany Studios, Handel, and Pairpoint, though many unsigned examples exist. This particular lamp’s base design, with its ornate scrollwork and distressed finish, is reminiscent of the elaborate decorative styles prevalent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The combination of a stained glass shade and a decorative metal base was a hallmark of the period, aiming to provide both functional lighting and an artistic centerpiece for the home.
