Antique Suess Bent Slag Glass Lamp Bradley & Hubbard Miller Handel styles
This is a wonderful large bent Slag Glass lamp by the Suess Ornamental Glass Company of Chicago. Max Suess started the business in the early part of the 20th Century. Several patents were issued to him for his processes and techniques in manufacturing his products. Son Walter expanded the business into the manufacturing of lamps. Their period of lamp making lasted only a few years and was stopped by a serious fire in their factory. This lamp is unmarked and stands 27 inches tall on its 11 inch in diameter base. Apparently many of their bases were of bronze, however, this one is of cast iron and quite heavy with most of its original finish. A magnet sticks to it. The shade is 17 1/4 inches in diameter and 8 1/2 inches tall. It appears to be a sort of hammered copper or brass and held together with rivets. The slag glass panels are held in place with brass strips and small bolts with sheet metal thin nuts. Check out the photos. The patinated finish is almost all there and it looks great. The bent slag glass panels are all there with no chips or cracks. The lamp has been correctly rewired and works perfectly. Just a real nice rare lamp for your home.
