The very pretty slag glass lamp has 2 bent arm sockets concealed under a stunning eight sided shade inset with slag glass in rich beiges, caramel and brown tones. The mixed metal fluted base has a bronze finish. The base is very heavy and it’s not going to fall over very easily. The shade is also has a mixed metal frame that was patinated with an antique bronze, The main stays have the remnants of gold gilding. Circling around the bottom is a wide filigree leaf border. The shade is topped by a fluted cap that coordinates with the base. The shade is held in place by a 6-sided metal finial. There is no maker’s name on the base or shade. The two lamp sockets are not identical. It is a bit newer than the other socket, still quite old. I’d date this socket to the late 1920s. Base – 12 ¼” (31.1 cm) tall x 7 1/8″ (18.1 cm) diameter. Shade – 13 ¼” (36.7 cm) x 13 ¼” (36.7 cm) x 7 (17.8 cm) tall. Total weight 8 lbs 13 oz (4000 g). Although the wiring is at least 50 years old, it is likely not original because it has a molded 2 prong thermoplastic plug. This sort of plug would not have been common when the lamp was manufactured. One original pull chain socket was replaced by one with a twist knob. I have tested the lamp and it works great. The metal work is all intact, although some of the bronze finish has worn or is scratched. Very little of the original gilding on the shade remains. Two of the slag glass panels are cracked. This old lamp is very attractive and would look wonderful in a variety of traditional room styles, including Victorian to Arts & Crafts. The lamp shade, in particular, is stunning.
