Art Deco Chrome Dc-3 Airplane Ashtray Smoking Stand Slag Glass Table Lamp
Art Deco Airplane Ashtray Lamp made by C. Electric Lamps Montreal Quebec. Almost 70 years old now these iconic post war items are getting harder to find, especially in any sort of good condition. Portable Electric Standard Lamp according to the stamp on the bottom of the ashtray table. Most of these chrome lighted airplane ashtrays and tables were manufactured in the late 1940s and into the early 1950s by lamp manufacturing companies in Canada. The following is an exert from a historical perspective of this genre. They were originally made by two Canadian companies, called Metalcraft and another called Electrolite (sic) both in Toronto. There was apparently also a third Canadian company in Montreal that made a slightly different airplane ashtray that had a square tray and square boxes that dropped into the tray and a narrower airplane that had three lines running down the side.. Although the DC-3 was the popular model for these different companies, each made their aircraft slightly differently. This particular one made by C. Features an off switch for the lighted fuselage cabin lights on the side of the airplane. The propellers spin freely and appear to be original. The DC-3 airplane pivots into multiple positions resting on a ball and socket base. There is a beautiful slag glass ball on the base of the stand. Overall condition of the airplane and stand is about 7 out of 10. Height to the tail of the DC-3 is 35 inches and the ashtray table is about 13 inches wide by 11 inches wide.
