We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We also have a growing customer wish list. We’d be honored to add you to our customer wish list. We ask what we consider to be a fair price for anything we sell and understand that our idea of a fair price may be someone else’s’that’s too much’ price. If that’s the case, feel free to make us an offer and will consider it. We also have sales regularly, so check back often. There is always a Sale by TheBay! Now onto the item for sale. For sale is a beautiful antique slag glass lamp made in NY by the Royal Art Glass Company. This lamp is signed Royal Art Glass on the bottom which is how every example we’ve seen is marked by the company. However, what is known is that the company was only around from 1910 to 1925 and was located in New York, so we know this lamp dates to that timeframe. In five short months, this lamp will be at least 100 years old and upwards of 115 years old. The lamp body, the part without the shade, is quite heavy at 7 pounds 6 ounces. As you can see, it has a great looking sculpted design with a patina brass color. Given its weight and the limited information we could find online, we believe the body is made out of brass covered cast iron. The slag glass really makes this lamp stand out. The eight individual pieces of slag glass have a combination of caramel and white colors in a marbleized effect. As you can see, each piece is curved and they all have an uneven underside which clearly indicates that they are all the original pieces. The eight pieces of slag glass are set in a beautifully sculpted metal frame which we assume is also brass covered cast iron, but it may be solid brass. Either way, it’s a bit heavier than the lamp post and has a great patina. As you can see, this lamp hold two light bulbs with each having its own pullstring to turn them on and off individually. In case you missed it, the sleeve that goes over the light bulb socket is missing on one of the sockets. Obviously, this can be replaced and we have no doubt that a qualified metal smith could make one that matches the other perfectly and even give it a finish to match the existing one. As you can also see, this lamp works great, but the original cord was replaced prior to us coming across the lamp. It is spliced to the original cord that still runs up the inside of the lamp body to the light bulb sockets with two barrel connectors. The finial looks like a pinecone and is also rather heavy with the same patina brass color as the shade and lamp body. We trust the finial is also original. With the shade and finial in place, this lamp stands 23 tall. The lamp shade is 14 1/2″ across from the center of one piece of slag glass to the center of the piece on the opposite side and roughly 9″ tall in the center. The base is 8 5/8″ diameter and roughly 21 1/2″ tall without the shade or finial in place. With the lamp shade in place, this lamp weighs right at 15 pounds, so the shade is slightly heavier than the body. They will also be taped to the metal frame to prevent them from shifting within the shade. The shade will be filled tightly with packing peanuts and then wrapped in a couple layers of large bubble wrap. The lamp post won’t need as much padding, if you will, since it is solid cast iron. The wood costs about half that. Each box will be insured. Thanks for looking and God bless!
