Guaranteed a genuine early 20th century era classic panel lamp. The shade and base are guaranteed original to each other and not a later marriage. Prices for Tiffany table lamps ran into the hundreds of dollars. Slag glass panel lamps, as theyre called today, with a few large pieces of glass fitted into a cast metal frame evolved as a way to create some of the effects of the leaded lamps without the high cost of labor and materials. That made them affordable for many more people. A 1925 Sears, Roebuck and Co. Many manufacturers made this type of lamp. Often the lamps were not signed, but if they are marked, the makers name or mark is usually found cast into the metal on the underside of the base. Sometimes a mark is present on the metal edge of a shade or elsewhere on the base. Occasionally a surviving paper label is present. Miller and Bradley & Hubbard are two of the best known makers, in part because their marks are frequently seen. Miller was established in 1844 in Meriden, Conn. As Joel Miller and Son. The company got its start in lighting manufacture by producing metal candleholders, and then moved into kerosene lamps, gas lighting, and electric lighting as times changed. The name of the company changed too, becoming Edward Miller & Co. For a time, then The Miller Co. A mark of Miller or E M & CO on the base indicates a Miller lamp. Miller produced more expensive leaded glass lamps, but seized the opportunity to sell lighting for the middle classes as more and more homes were wired for electricity. A 1920 Philadelphia Electric Co. All the lamps are described as being cast metal openwork over light amber art glass and could be ordered in a variety of metal finishes including French brown, Grecian antique, Etruscan bronze and Florentine relief. While lamps were made with glass in colors other than amber, or caramel as it is often called now, amber predominates. According to a lighting catalog from the period, Amber is the color used in all [our] lamps. Amber has, by scientific tests been proven to be easiest on the eyes, and most restful when reading. Also located in Meriden, Conn. The Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Co. Produced many slag glass lamps. Bradley & Hubbard also made other metal goods like bookends, inkwells and spittoons. Marked slag glass lamps typically have a genie style oil lamp surrounded by a triangle and the words Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Found somewhere on the base and the company name in uppercase text on the inner rim of a shade. Other period manufacturers of slag glass lamps include the Empire Lamp Mfg. In Chicago, Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass, and Glass Co. In Pittsburgh, and H. The market for dramatic, heavy lamps with glass shades faded and manufacturers responded with cheaper, lightweight lamps with paper or fabric shades. Slag glass lamps remain the embodiment of a time when the country was surging forward with a lightness of spirit and the bright promises of electricity for all. What a cool design and great look. Its a midsized lamp and as such more multi purpose. The base measures 22.5 inches tall and has no damage or issues. Its got its original patina throughout and its in very nice condition. Nice old sockets and satellite pulls. Also has its original b and h finial. The base without damage of any kind and in fine working order. It’s been recently rewired with period style and correct cloth cord and is signed on the bottom and at the top. The shade measures 16 inches wide. The shade in very nice overall condition and has no glass breaks in the upper light green panels or in the red border panels and also no cracks or breaks. The filligree all in place and also without losses. The shade not out of round at all and i see no breaks in the metalware. All in all a very nice and fairly hard to find Bradley and hubbard lamp. So when I see your offers, I have to subtract those costs to get to my net. The costs can be up to 250.00 per item depending on the final price. I will be offering my lamps as reasonable as possible so as to 1. Not cause sticker shock like so many other sellers, 2. To sell them and not let my inventory sit around for years on end. Thanks for checking this great lamp out and please check out my other great lighting options as well. Recently I have been putting different lighting on with reserves and no reserves. Zone two would be 75.00 times 20% which equals 15.00 which is added to the 75.00 and becomes 90.00. Zone three is 75.00 times 33% which is 25.00 which then becomes 100.00 for zone three. Sorry to do this and I hope you will stay on as fine and loyal customers. We may be able to hand deliver this item ourselves. What that means is this. If you live in the following radius or just outside it, we should communicate about not using a major carrier, so it has a better chance of survival and minimizing damage or a damage claim as well. Please Check out my other items! Some great Bradley Hubbard, Tiffany, Handel, etc. To all potential buyers. Please feel free to. Chances are if there aren’t any, it’s a newer item and you shouldn’t want it anyways. In other words, a minor blemish on some metalwork belonging to a large shade or a 1/16 by 1/16 of a paint flake missing, please try and be reasonable. I always describe the important aspects towards condition reports and sometimes my eye misses what I deem immaterial issues such as the aforementioned sentence. Thanks for your understanding. There are a few things in life we cant do without. Food, water, fire, oxygen, the sun, shelter etc. So when it comes to shelter and necessary light for it, thats where I come in. I believe in living simply and within my means but surrounded by items of great quality. Of and the wasteful utilities that go along with that. So why is it people go out and spend. Not to mention you got the same usage for that entire time period? This makes infinitely more financial sense than the other choice, plus you have a conversation piece in the room and something to be proud of. Also you have more cultural feeling invested in something 100 years old knowing that it can never be duplicated by modern making techniques and knowing there a few, if any, like it left for this world and now its yours. You display it and care for it. So again thats where I come in. Great period lighting when electricity was still in its infancy. When makers like Bradley and Hubbard, Handel, Tiffany studios, Pairpoint, and others cared about quality, appearance, and function. When makers were trying to outdo one another with this new business boom of electric lighting. When we went from whale and kerosene oil lamps and gas, to electric. This is when the best lamps in the world were manufactured and the ones I want to light my home with when its dark. I cant control the sun or the amount of light it provides or when it comes up or goes down, and whether its cloudy or not, but I can control the light in my home when its dark. And like I said earlier, I want nice rugs, paintings, pottery, furniture, etc. And I want to see those items lit by great lighting. Its what makes a home more outstanding and livable because without it you see absolutely nothing. A quality lamp makes or breaks a room. You can have the best rugs, furniture, paintings, and accessories in the world, but without great lamps or lighting nobody will ever see it. The Lamp has the original matching finish on all of the parts even the canopy retractor and oil font. The retractor works perfect adjusts up and down easily. The frame parts look to have original finish but may need to been cleaned as shown in pictures. The Lamp has the original miller oil font it has not been electrified no holes drilled. The top part of the oil font has one small stress crack in it , this could be fixed and still use this as a oil Lamp because the Stress crack is at the top. The retractor has the patent date of 1892 on it. I will include a tall chimney with the Lamp. There is no damage to any of the six art glass panels I cannot find any damage to the Lamp The only thing I see is one half of one of the little decorative ball is missing , also a few of the old Original to the Lamp red glass beads are missing seen in pictures. Lamp is 36″ tall extends down to 47″ the shade is 14 wide 7 1/4 tall. These all original art Glass hanging Oil Lamps are not easy to find. Be sure to watch for my many other very good oil lamp auctions coming up in the next few months. There will also be a lot of oil lamp parts auctions.
