Art Deco Era Student/Library Lamp-Rare Stepped Uranium Slag Art Glass Shades- Articulated Sockets. Condition Statement for this Item. Condition is always in the eye of the beholder. Up for offer this week is an Art Deco era 2 light library or student style lamp with a T style lamp holder assembly made of brass. Each socket is equipped with ball joint that lets you position each light socket as needed in almost any direction. The lamp body is made of Uranium slag glass with a swirl of caramel in the glass The stepped base is unusual and rare and I have only seen one like it many years ago. The base has 2 small light sockets under the glass allowing you to light up only the stepped base. A 3 way switch allows for the top 2 lights only, the base lamps only and all lights on and then of course, off. The lamp is 20.25 inches tall as measured from the base to the top of the brass finial. The square base is 8.5 by 8.5 inches square and the lamp is about 12.5 inches wide. The lamp weights almost 6 Lbs. The lamp will include 2 Uno shade holder rings with 2.25 fitters and the unsigned feather pulled art glass shades are included and in perfect shape while these shades are not signed, I believe these are made by Quezal. Each light socket has a pull chain switch and they both work perfectly. Overall condition: The lamp has been re-wired and is in good working order – - -the pull chain switches work as they should and the 3 way switch is new. The uranium slag glass pieces that make up the lamp base and body are free of damage, chips, cracks or repairs. The metal frame that holds the glass base is in excellent shape and has most (98%) of its original finish. Up for sale is a lamp that when discovered had been heavily painted from top to bottom, including the sockets, chain, acorns It was almost like the lamp was dipped in paint and I later found that it was painted twice. This was quite the job to clean and remove but the paint may have been a blessing in disguise. Under all the paint was the original Bronze or Brass plating, in fact, the entire lamp is Bronze or Brass plated and the paint protected the original surface. This lamp was completely original (minus the paint) when found. Original wiring and sockets Nothing had been modified since the day it was made. The lamp itself is almost 25 inches tall and the shade is 17 inches across and free of damage to the metal frame or filigree. Its a very heavy lamp and weights in at just over 17 Lbs. Im not sure what metal the base or lamp is made of-Magnets dont stick to the metal. The lamp originally had a two socket cluster which was changed to a newer solid brass 3 socket cluster. The original sockets where kept and the paint removed. The sockets are unlike any I have seen before and look as if they would have been premium sockets in the day and I believe the socket casings are solid bronze shells. The original sockets had the acorn pulls already. Socket is of the period but different from the two original sockets The 3. Socket has an acorn pull. The original cloth cord was threadbare and was replaced with a modern day reproduction twisted cloth cord and the internal wiring was updated to modern cord.
