Bigelow Kennard Lamp, Slag Glass, Leaded Shade, Arts Crafts, Handel Lamp Era
Up for consideration is a nice Bigelow Kennard double shade student lamp. The base stands 21 1/4 tall and is 11 1/2 wide socket edge to socket edge. The foot is 6 1/2 in Dia. The base is solid bronze with a weighted brass base and is unsigned which a lot of Bigelow bases are. Weber Turnkey Sockets with original interiors. Original old felted bottom. The shades are unsigned Bigelow Kennard and are shown on Leaded lamps web site. The shades are very nice. Each shade is 4 1/2 tall and 7 wide with a 2 1/2 metal top marked Hubbell with a threaded hole that is 1 1/4. The shades are held on the sockets by uno threaded washers on the socket ends which I think look better then the snap ring that shows from the top side of the shade. The shades are in good condition. One shade has a couple tight heat cracks and the other has about twelve with a very small Leaded edge missing. All cracks are tight and no missing glass. I took one picture with that shade under light so you can see. Both shades have that great Clam broth white back ground glass and a green and Amber floral border. This lamp I think is pretty rare since Ive never seen a Bigelow Student lamp. I took a lot of pictures which is part of the description. If you have questions or need pictures please let me know. The cap is also very characteristic of that company. It is absolutely a period 1900′s shade and sure looks like Bigelow & Kennard, but is not signed so I cannot guarantee it. These guys usually signed their shades, so why this one is not signed is unknown. Regardless of this, the shade is just over the top beautiful and has some of the best green/blue glass in any shade I have ever owned. This glass contrasts very well with the floral boarder which reminds me of Tiffany’s acorns and banded florals. I will let my pictures do most of the talking here and as you can see from them the lamp displays extremely well and would look awesome in any arts & crafts setting. In terms of size, the shade measures 16″ in diameter and the lamp stands 21″ tall. In terms of condition, I see maybe a crack or two here and there, but nothing serious. There are no replaced pieces and the shade has that nice rattle of an old and original. The base is solid brass (as all Bigelow & Kennard bases were) and is quite heavy and well made. It has its old sockets and matching Bryant shells with Bryant turn keys and has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and a nice original plug. Just a wonderful arts & crafts look that I will let my pictures do most of the talking for. The shade is comprised of streaky white glass with a thick overlay design on the outside. It measures 20 in diameter and is in. With no breaks, cracks or replaced glass. It is literally as nice as it was the day it was made. The shade is fully signed Bigelow & Kennard, Boston, and Bigelow Studios, as shown. The base is one of Hampshire’s best looking arts & crafts bulbous styled ones. It has a beautiful dark green finish and is also in excellent overall condition with no repairs. There are a couple of tiny cracks on the underside from the making, but these are not visible and are absolutely. Nothing to be concerned about. The base is signed HAMPSHIRE 007, and with the hardware stands just over 20 tall. The base has a 3 socket oil can fitted font the cap of which is signed “Made in the United States of America”. It has what appears to be its original General Electric sockets that retain their old porcelain interiors and ball ended pull chains. The font has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and a nice old plug, and the lamp comes ready to use and enjoy. This is a large and impressive lamp made by a quality maker in the true arts and crafts style. It is a beautiful example of both Bigelow and Hampshire’s work and is in very fine condition overall. This is an unusual lamp base that is dated what appears to be 10/26/15 (see picture 5). The shade unknown verified has hundreds of pieces with multi-brilliant colors as shown. B&K lamps are very hard to find especially in this condition and these lamps typically bring a premium due to scarcity. I will be listing some top end lamps that I have available. Here is a Rare Bigelow Kennard Bronze complete Lamp Base. Collectors know what this Base is and how had a quality bronze base from this maker is to find. This base is very heavy 28 1/2 tall to the top of the Finial. The foot is 7 x 7 square. The sockets are orig. To the base with orig. Interiors and Ball pulls. One socket has a very minor crack on the cap end. All in working condition. Base has been rewired with Brown old style cloth covers cord with old plug. This is a Rare Antique Working Signed “Bigelow & Kennard” Slag Glass Art Nouveau Electric Table Lamp, made in the USA, during the early 1920′s by the Bigelow & Kennard Company Boston Mass USA. The Base is a Fancy Ornate Gold Gilded Cast Iron Base, with a Nice Patina and 3 1/2 Shade Fitter Diameter. It is Signed Underneath “BK”, as pictured, for Bigelow & Kennard. The Domed Gold Gilded Cast Metal Mushroom Style Slag Glass Shade has Eight Caramel Slag Glass Curved Panels, with Fancy Decorative Victorian Overlay at The Top and in the Corners. The Lamp Measures approx. 22 1/4 Tall to the Top Of The Finial. The Shade has a 19 1/4 Base Diameter, with a Height of approx. The Shade is in Great Condition with the Original Finish, and is the Correct Original Shade for the Lamp. There are Two Sockets with Pull Chain Switches, Which are Working Correctly.
