Bigelow & Kennard Slag Glass 8 Panel Lamp Arts & Crafts Period
An antique Arts & Crafts table lamp by Bigelow and Kennard of Boston offers filigree cast shade having foliate, gadroon, and scroll design housing 8 slag glass panels over double socket cast base with maker mark BK as photographed on the base, c1860′s. Martin Parry Kennard joined the firm in 1845, which prompted the company to change its name to Bigelow Bros. After 1863, the firm was named Bigelow, Kennard & Co. This lamp works perfectly. By the cord it appears to have been rewired around the mid 1960′s-1970′s. It is 28.5 tall. Lamp shade is 18″ wide x 7″ tall. It is missing a couple of tabs to hold the glass (as shown). The glass will not fall out at all. This piece was gold gilded. The gold gilting has worn off in some places on the base stem and a few other spots. It is 100 years old some wear is inevitable. One glass panel has a rough edge but cannot be seen from the outside of the shade.

Base is in good condition with no cracks or chips, has 1 white spot of surface corrosion but just topical easily buffed out, the metal has a nice aged patina – see detailed photos.

C1919 Bigelow and Kennard BK Antique Arts Nouveau Crafts Oil Table Lamp Copper Base 12 Panels Slag Glass 2 Pull Chains. Wonderful Arts & Crafts Lamp with 12 Panels of Blue Textured, Slag Glass on top and 12 Opaque Panels on the bottom. The underside of the base is initialed or marked “BK” Bigelow and Kennard, in a diamond shape, and there is a number “2″ on the underside. There is a gas wick part that sits on the top of the lamp that allows for the shade to sit securely. This lamp has 2 standard bulb sockets and 2 pull chains. One socket is working, the other side need attention. There are 3 blue or top panels with breaks, one is in loose condition. There are 2 white or lower panels that have breaks, one is in loose condition. Overall: 22.5″ T x 14″ W, Base is 8 diameter. Shade is 14″ W x 12.75″ T. The base is 22 tall. This shade is signed and sizes 22 Dia. 7 1/2 Deep aperture 4 1/4. Shade has a great Arts Crafts look. Nice size shade to use on a lamp base or hanging hardware. I think all the glass is original even though some panels look off in color just because of the leading work is so nice is why I say this. Which Bigelow is known for. Rare MacDonald Leaded Shade, Bigelow Kennard, Leaded, Slag Shade, Handel Lamp Era
He was a teacher of stained glass to Louis Comfort Tiffany. If you search MacDonald theres a Wikipedia article. Also on Leaded Lamps Dot Com theres some pictures of this shade on a Grueby Lamp base. This shade was a mystery on who made the shade since its only signed MacDonald. I herd it could of been his Son or Daughter. That cleared the confusion on who made the shade. Donald Newton MacDonald was the son that ended up being the head of the Stained glass lamp department of Bigelow & Kennard lamp co. So now I believe that these signed MacDonald Leaded shades are Prototypes to show Bigelow & Kennard his work and was hired and the same shades where then signed Bigelow & Kennard as we see today. This shade is very nice. The shade is 20 in Diameter with a 3 1/2 aperture top opening. The condition is mint. I hate to say that but I cant find a crack maybe a very small one up by the top in the green glass. The glass has a hammered type green top glass and a beautiful White Clam Broth bottom glass. The shade is signed MacDonald. I do have the Grueby lamp base I would also sell if there is interest? This shade is very hard and rare to find. If you have a nice Bigelow Kennard base there you go. Bigelow & Kennard Leaded Lamp, Slag, Stained Glass Shade, Arts Crafts, Handel Lamp
Up for consideration is a Nice Rare Bigelow Kennard student lamp. First if you know anything about Bigelow Lamps they are super hard to find, Let alone a Student lamp. This lamp has a nice Brass and Bronze weighted base. The base stands 21 tall with a 10 wide at the center of the shade holders and is 13 wide at the outside edge of the holder to outside edge. The foot is 6 1/4 in Diameter. The base has a nice dark brown patina, The shade holders are solid bronze and has a UNO threaded washer to hold the shades to the holder. The holder also has a top piece that can be screwed up or down to the top of the shade. The shades are not signed but Are Bigelow. You can go to leaded lamps dot com and see the same shades under Bigelow & Kennard. The shades are 4 -/2 tall and 7 opening. The top has a Hubbell UNO 1 1/4 threaded top marked Hubbell Pat D July 03 1903, Fed 03 1904. The shades are in good shape. The shades have a great Clam broth back glass know for Bigelow shades with a floral border. The shade condition is pretty good. One shade I dont see any issues maybe one small heat crack the other shade has 8 or 9 heat cracks as shown in the pictures and a missing piece of leading on the bottom edge as shown in the pictures. The lamp has been rewired and has its original nickel plate inline switch and old plug. Ive taken a lot of pictures which is part of the description. Use your zoom feature to see condition. Bigelow & Kennard Hampshire Leaded Slag Stained Glass Table Lamp Handel Era
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is a great looking lamp whose shade was made by Bigelow & Kennard and whose base is Hampshire. I have seen combinations like this with many Hampshire bases and most look pretty good, but this one is just outstanding…… Its a perfect match! It has just a wonderful squatty Arts & Crafts look. I will let my pictures do the talking here since they can do a better job than I can about describing i. T, but will note that the shade is 19 1/2″ in diameter and the lamp stands 20 1/2″ tall. The shade is not signed, but I had a. One in pure white a few months back that was signed, and I will fully and unconditionally guarantee this to be a genuine Bigelow & Kennard shade. This shade is done with wonderful dark yellow/white glass which gives it a very rich color when lit. The glass is like the kind they used in Bradley & Hubbard lamps….. That really deep and sought after yellow stuff. Without even a singe crack and all of the filigree is just fine. It is so well. The Hampshire base is what I believe to be a fairly rare form with an. Swirl design that is repeated 3 times around the girth. I see no cracks or chips in the base and the finish is outstanding. The base is signed as shown and even has an old paper label with the number 007 on it. It comes complete with matching GE labeled sockets having their original porcelain interiors and ball ended pull chains. Has has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and comes ready to use and enjoy. This is a really nice arts & crafts themed table lamp with a great Hampshire pottery lamp base. If you like lamps or need parts please feel free to look at my other auctions or contact me. That being said, please do not embarrass yourself with a lowball offer thinking you are going to get such a lamp like this. It is just a waste of both of our times. Bigelow & Kennard Hampshire Arts & Crafts Leaded Slag Stained Glass Table Lamp
Please take a look, ask questions, and let me know if you need any additional pictures. This is a beautify example of a Hamshire pottery lamp base paired with a signed Bigelow & Kennard leaded shade. Just a wonderful arts & crafts look that I will let my pictures do most of the talking for. The shade is comprised of streaky white glass with a thick overlay design on the outside. It measures 20 in diameter and is in. With no breaks, cracks or replaced glass. It is literally as nice as it was the day it was made. The shade is fully signed Bigelow & Kennard, Boston, and Bigelow Studios, as shown. The base is one of Hampshire’s best looking arts & crafts bulbous styled ones. It has a beautiful dark green finish and is also in excellent overall condition with no repairs. There are a couple of tiny cracks on the underside from the making, but these are not visible and are absolutely. Nothing to be concerned about. The base is signed HAMPSHIRE 007, and with the hardware stands just over 20 tall. The base has a 3 socket oil can fitted font the cap of which is signed “Made in the United States of America”. It has what appears to be its original General Electric sockets that retain their old porcelain interiors and ball ended pull chains. The font has been wired with period style cloth braided cord and a nice old plug, and the lamp comes ready to use and enjoy. This is a large and impressive lamp made by a quality maker in the true arts and crafts style. It is a beautiful example of both Bigelow and Hampshire’s work and is in very fine condition overall.
